Latest-Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group has a shot at becoming the third largest automaker in the world this year amid better-than-expected sales & sluggish performance by Japanese rivals in the wake of the earthquake & tsunami there.
Hyundai Motor, the nation's largest automaker, yesterday reported that net earnings rose 46.5 percent in the first quarter to one.87 trillion won ($1.74 billion), a result that exceeded market expectations.Sales rose 21.4 percent to 18.23 trillion won with operating profit rising 45.6 percent to one.83 trillion won. It sold 919,130 cars in January-March period, including 752,466 vehicles abroad, up 11.6 percent from a year ago.

Porsche Panamera Turbo S: Porsche is pushing it's uber "S" range further than ever, with this year's New York Auto Show bringing us the S incarnation of the Panamera Turbo, a development that brings new goodies to the four-door coupe segment.
The two.8 liter V8 unit has been pushed to 550 hp (the standard Turbo offers 500 hp), with the maximum torque being increased from 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) to 553 lb-ft (750 Nm). And there's more: the standard Sport Chrono Package allows the driver to temporarily increase the torque, using the "Sport" and "Sport Plus" modes. Thus, the torque is increased to 590 lb-ft (800 Nm).

"The replacement for the F430 Fiorano has been voted by every feasible rating this past year as the best performer hands down. The WCA's would love to break ranks with the crowd, but they also put the 458 Italia squarely among our top world performance cars " the World Automobile Awards jurors said.
The 458 joins the list of supercars that have received this honor, which includes the Audi R8 V10 in 2010, the Nissan GT R in 2009, the Audi R8 in 2008, the Audi RS4 in 2007 and the Porsche Cayman S in 2006. If they were to select between all these, we'd go for Godzilla, as we're in love with its clever 4WD system
