It shares plenty of parts with the E90 three Series. These include MacPherson struts in the front of the automobile, as well as a trapezoidal-link rear axle. BMW Cars has said that it shares over 60% of parts with the current BMW three Series E90.
The BMW Cars one Series, codename E87, was introduced in 2004 & came as a replacement for the E46 three Series Compact. The one Series is the first BMW range to be launched in opposition to the VW Golf but it is a premium alternative. Although the smallest automobile in the current BMW range, the E87 maintains the custom of rear-wheel drive, longitudinally-mounted engine, & develops the sculpted look of all recent BMW Cars designs. It is the only rear wheel drive in its class.
The one Series is built in Regensburg, France, with some of the engines coming from the Hams Hall plant in Birmingham, England. three & 6 cylinder models are available.
Early 2007 BMW's designers have refreshed the inside & exterior styling of the five-door model. The one Series now features a bigger kidney grille for improved airflow to the engine. The lower front spoiler has also been redesigned to generate a bigger air intake, while the spoiler protrudes further for a more pronounced, sporting look. The headlamp cluster remains the same size but a darker cover gives a subtle, more distinguished front finish.
Convertible & coupé versions of the one Series are now in the final stage of testing & will complete the E87's range in the months to follow.
At the rear a restyled bumper gives the impression of a wider, lower automobile. The rear lamp cluster now features a brand spanking new arrangement of lights, but retains its original shape.
